Aston Villa starlet Louie Barry seals loan switch to Swindon Town

Aston Villa's teenage striker Louie Barry has joined Swindon Town on loan for the rest of the season.

Barry was the first English player to join Barcelona's academy, La Masia in 2019 on a three-year deal, when he left West Brom.

After failing to settle in Spain he returned to England and signed for Villa, his boyhood club, in January 2020.

The England U18 international has been compared in style to Michael Owen and is a popular figure with supporters who called for Dean Smith to give him a run in the side last season.

On his Villa debut, he scored the equaliser in Villa’s FA Cup third round tie against Liverpool and also helped the under-18 squad win the FA Youth Cup last season.

He went on loan to Ipswich Town earlier this season but the move failed to pay off and he was recalled by Villa after making just six appearances.

Doncaster Rovers and others had shown an interest in the 18-year-old livewire but Villa have opted for Swindon Town in the hope the physical nature of football in League Two can provide another stern test in his development.
