Awful state of Wembley pitch revealed ahead of Tottenham & Man City game

The true extent of the damage done to the Wembley pitch by Sunday's NFL game has been revealed ahead of Manchester City's match against Tottenham on Monday evening.

In pictures released hours before kick-off, the Wembley turf appeared to be in awful condition, with groundsmen using sprinklers in an attempt to improve its condition prior to the Premier League clash.

A barren patch of grass on the left wing looked particularly worrying for the likes of Leroy Sane and Lucas Moura, while NFL logos and markings were also visible.

Just 24 hours prior to kick-off, Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles beat Jacksonville Jaguars 24-18.

And while a clear money-spinner for footballing authorities, the match served to considerably worsen the state of the Wembley pitch.

Particularly down the centre, the formerly velvety green surface had been worn away to a patchy brown colour.
