Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta said he was left in awe when he first saw new teammate Joao Felix on the training ground.
Enzo Fernandez and his record-breaking transfer may have stolen the spotlight in the last couple of weeks, but Felix is arguably just as exciting in terms of what he brings to the team.
The on-loan Atletico Madrid player has proved that he can play a central role in Chelsea's attack with his all-round ability as a forward.
Well, to be fair, Felix even managed to surprises Azpilicueta, who already played against him twice when Chelsea meet Atletico in the Champions League round of 16 in 2021, with his qualities.
“Yeah, he is,” the Spain international said in Tuesday's press conference when asked whether he thinks Felix is a special talent.
“I knew him from when we played against Atletico and then watching the games in La Liga.
“But I was quite surprised when he arrived because the quality that he has is amazing in training.
“In the last game against West Ham, he showed the way he can turn, create spaces and pass. In training, he's been unbelievable.
“Honestly, he's been very good.
“Scoring a goal will also help [boost] his confidence. He's already making a huge impact on the team, and I'm looking forward to seeing him every day and perform at this level.”
It has been two years since the two-legged tie, which Chelsea won rather comfortably, so the Portugal international had plenty of time to develop as a player.
Not to mention that Chelsea play more attacking football than Simeone's Atletico, which likely helps Felix perform better.
It is no surprise that, according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have already considered making the former Benfica player a permanent signing.
