Barcelona are refusing to meet Marc-Andre ter Stegen's contract demands after the German goalkeeper asked to be paid €15million a year.

Ter Stegen wants the reigning Spanish champions to make him their second highest earner behind star forward Lionel Messi.

However, Barcelona are refusing to give in as they do not want to be held to ransom by their No 1.

News of a breakdown in contract talks could open the door to his suitors – including Chelsea, according to Goal.

Chelsea will be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in the summer as Frank Lampard is losing patience with their record signing Kepa.

Kepa was restored to Chelsea's starting line-up for their emphatic 4-0 win over Everton at the weekend after he was dropped for four Premier League games.

Ter Stegen is seen as a vital component of Barcelona's team but the Catalans have struggled defensively this season.

Barcelona, who are top of La Liga, have conceded 31 goals in the league this season while rivals Real Madrid have conceded just 19.

The 27-year-old Germany international originally had to settle for appearances in the cup competitions as Claudio Bravo was Barcelona's first choice custodian in the league.

However, he became Barcelona's out-and-out first choice keeper when Bravo left the club to join Manchester City in August 2016.

Ter Stegen, who has two years left to run on his contract, has a release clause of £158m inserted into his current deal.
