Match Report
The hosts were dealt a setback when Alejandro Balde was stretchered off midway through the first half following a nasty collision with Sandro Ramírez.
Hansi Flick's side saw their best chance before the interval fall to Raphinha, who crashed an effort against the crossbar after working his way into the penalty area.
Los Amarillos provided a shock early in the second half as Sandro returned to haunt his former club with a well-taken strike to break the deadlock.
The Blaugrana struck back shortly after the hour mark courtesy of sweeping finish from Raphinha on the edge of the box.
But parity proved short-lived as Fábio Silva was sent clear by Kirian Rodríguez before bundling the ball past a rooted Iñaki Peña.
Another former Barça player conspired against them as Jasper Cillessen palmed away a dipping free kick from Raphinha in the closing stages.
It means Real Madrid, who have a game in hand, can now move to within one point of their arch-rivals with a win over Getafe on Sunday.
