Given the obvious impossibility of signing Marcelo Brozovic due to the economic magnitude of the transfer and the player's salary, FC Barcelona have already decided to activate the plan to bring Oriol Romeu back to the club.
The Barça management gave the go-ahead for the signing and on Friday they informed the player that they want him to be part of the squad for 2023/24. Barça want to start negotiations with Girona very soon, perhaps as early as Saturday.
As of Thursday, Girona had not received any calls from Barça. Once the talks begin, Girona are quite clear that they will end up reaching an understanding but that they do not intend to give away a player for whom they paid a transfer fee.
Some reports say that Oriol Romeu's buy-out clause is 10 million euros, but others say it is significantly lower. In any case, when the player arrived at Girona he did so at a much lower salary than the one he was earning at Southampton and he has a commitment from the club that if he received an important offer they would not put many obstacles in the way of his possible departure.
So the amount that Barça could sign the player to replace Sergio Busquets may not be too high. In addition, Barça could try to make the transfer cheaper with the transfer of a player that could be of interest to Girona.
