Hugo Sotelo has become one of the great revelations at Celta Vigo. Already in preseason, it was clear that he was ready to play an important role in the team, but the player is living a complex situation at the club due to his contractual situation. According to 'Relevo', talks for his renewal are at a standstill after the first proposal was rejected.

Sotelo, 19, has a contract until 2025 and is still registered to the reserve team. It is a scenario that, according to these reports, has led both Barcelona and Real Madrid to monitor his situation. Both clubs are keeping a close eye on his progress. Nothing strange in the case of Barça, who only have one pure midfielder at the moment: Oriol Romeu.
Zubimendi was Xavi's main target to take over from Busquets but his clause, and the player's own intention not to move, meant that Barça had to look for alternatives. And that is where they opted for the Romeu route: a player with experience who was also familiar with the style, having been trained at La Masia.
However, the club is still working to have this position covered in the long-term and Sotelo would be one of the players they have good reports on. As of today, his clause is €10 million as long as he is a member of the reserve team. That amount would double if he were to become a first-team player officially.
