Recently-appointed Barcelona manager Xavi is reportedly looking to bring Thiago Alcantara back to the club.
Liverpool midfielder Thiago played with Xavi after breaking into the Barcelona first-team and went on to make 101 senior appearances before leaving for Bayern Munich in 2013.
As reported by Sport, Xavi sees Thiago as the best option to improve Barcelona's midfield.
Xavi is said to have already discussed the possibility of signing Thiago with Barcelona's president Joan Laporta.
Thiago has a strong connection with Barcelona having joined the club as a youngster, but it could prove difficult to prise him away from Liverpool.
The 30-year-old has only played 90 minutes once in the Premier League for Jurgen Klopp's side this season, with a calf injury keeping him out for five games.
The Spain international has had a trophy-laden career. After winning an array of honours with Barcelona, he won seven Bundesliga titles and one Champions League at Bayern, as well as lifting the German Cup on four occasions.
Thiago joined Liverpool in September 2020 and will hope to win his first silverware with the club this season.
Former Barcelona star Xavi has taken over a team languishing in ninth place in LaLiga.
Barcelona can call upon Sergio Busquets and Frenkie de Jong in midfield, while they also have some very talented youngsters in Pedri, Nico Gonzalez and Gavi.
If they were able to sign Thiago, however, it would provide the team with greater experience in that department.
Xavi has already secured a deal to re-sign one of his old Barcelona team-mates, with 38-year-old right-back Dani Alves returning to the club.
