Barcelona star Pedri named amongst six players Liverpool are ‘targeting’

A recent report from Spain has credited Liverpool with an interest in six players.

Liverpool refresh on the cards?

Liverpool have been one of the most dominant forces in English football over the last several years, barring of course last season when they experienced a serious injury crisis.

But when fit, Liverpool still have a very solid starting line-up that will give most sides a go.

However, there is an argument that Liverpool’s recruitment of late has not been that exciting and it could come back to bite them in the near future.

The Reds have a number of key stars who are now either in their 30s or are very close to it.

Jordan Henderson is 31, Roberto Firmino is 29, Mohamed Salah 29, Sadio Mane 28, James Milner 35, Thiago 30, Joel Matip 30 and Virgil van Dijk 30.

Even ignoring their ages, it is not that often you see basically the same 11-13 players continue to maintain such a high level over many years, with squads instead, even after winning leagues, generally needing a refresh with some new faces.

Liverpool, though, have not been the most effective at this in recent years, with Ibrahima Konate this summer and Diogo Jota last summer their only real signings with the future in mind.

Liverpool ‘targeting’ six players

However, the Reds do look to be aiming to fix this in the future.

As mentioned above, Spanish outlet Fichajes has claimed that Liverpool are targeting six players, all of whom are fairly young and fit with Jurgen Klopp.

Said players are said to be Mikel Merino, Jude Bellingham, Carlos Soler, Harvey Barnes, Pedri and Karim Adeyemi.
