Fans were left baffled on Wednesday night after Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele was pictured with Sunderland owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus at the Stadium of Light.

Sheffield United returned to winning ways by claiming a much-needed 2-1 Championship comeback victory against the Black Cats in the race for promotion to the Premier League.

However, just after half-time the French winger was shown in the crowd, sat next to two people, during coverage on Sky Sports.

The former Borussia Dortmund player, who went off injured in Barca's 1-0 win over Girona in late January, was in the directors box.

And the 25-year-old's presence left fans confused on social media with one saying: 'What's Dembele doing at Sunderland?'

Another commented: 'I'm crying he's scouting for his FM save.'

A third person added: 'Ousmane Dembele to Sunderland confirmed.'

A final fan tweeted: 'Imagine being Ousmane Dembele and just using your night off to come to Sunderland in the rain.'

The reason that Dembele attended the match is because he's friends with the club's owner.

French businessman Louis-Dreyfus, 25, who also has a small stake in Marseille, became the controlling shareholder in June.

The pair have several snaps together on social media and Dembele congratulated Sunderland on Instagram when they were promoted last year.

The France international agreed a new contract until the summer of 2024 with Catalan giants Barcelona.

Paris St Germain, and Chelsea in particular, expressed interest in signing Dembele last year when he was briefly a free agent.
