Manchester United have received a huge boost as transfer target Niklas Sule reportedly 'dreams' of joining the Premier League side.

Bayern Munich defender Sule, whose contract expires in 2022, was targeted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last summer.

But imposing centre-half Sule ultimately stayed in Munich and helped the Bavarian side win a league, cup and Champions League treble.

However, he could be set to depart for Old Trafford with his next step.

Bild's Christian Falk tweeted: 'True: Niklas Sule dreams of playing for @ManUtd one day.'

Sule, capped 29 times for Germany, seems to be keen on a move from Munich to Manchester, sparking hopes he could partner United captain Harry Maguire at the back.

Sule only played 16 times in all competitions for Bayern last campaign, with David Alaba preferred in the middle of the defence due to Alphonso Davies' emergence at left back.

The former Hoffenheim man was hauled off at half-time for Jonathan Tah in Germany's embarrassing 6-0 thrashing by Spain in the Nations League on Tuesday.

However, the 6'5" defender has appeared regularly for his country and looks to have a bright future with room to improve aged just 25.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to strengthen his defence and Sule's reported aspirations of playing at Old Trafford could grease the wheels of a move.

Solskjaer is said to be looking to sell Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Timothy Fosu-Mensah and there are doubts over Eric Bailly's fitness and Victor Lindelof's consistency.

Furthermore, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has ruled out any move for Raphael Varane, meaning Solskjaer could turn to Sule to fix his defensive woes.
