Manchester City's Benjamin Mendy is in a period of self-isolation after a family member was tested for coronavirus.

The defender will stay away from City training until handed the all-clear after the relative reported respiratory problems and was taken to hospital.

Paramedics arrived at Mendy's home in Cheshire on Thursday and the France international will self-isolate as a precautionary measure until the results of COVID-19 testing are available.

It represents a scare for the Premier League champions, who are scheduled to face Burnley at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

A City spokesperson said: 'The club can confirm that a family member of a men's team player is in hospital with symptoms of a respiratory illness.

'The individual has undergone tests at hospital, one of which is for Covid-19. Until the results are known, the player in question is self-isolating as a precaution.'
