Manchester City have been handed encouraging news after the relative of Benjamin Mendy tested negative for coronavirus.
There were dramatic scenes at Mendy’s Cheshire home on Thursday after paramedics treated a family member for a respiratory illness.
The left-back was self-isolating as a precaution, with City cancelling a training session scheduled for Friday morning.
Mendy’s relative was given the all-clear when results of the coronavirus test were released on Saturday morning.
City’s players have been given the day off and no decision has yet been made whether they will return to training next week.
A club spokesperson said on Thursday: ‘The club is aware that a family member of a senior men's team player is in hospital with symptoms of a respiratory illness. He has undergone tests at hospital, one of which is for COVID-19.
‘Until the results are known, the player in question is self isolating as a precaution.’
