Betting Tips: Aston Villa vs Sheffield United

Chris Wilder's team travel to Villa Park on Friday night with a chance to knock Leeds United out of the automatic promotion places with a win

Sheffield United have the chance to go top of the Championship on Friday night as they travel to Birmingham to face Aston Villa.

Villa's playoff dreams are slowly but surely fading, with one win in their last six games the Villans look like missing out on the top six this season.

With Leeds' recent dip in form Sheffield United have snuck up on the top two, and a win here would knock Marcelo Bielsa's side out of the automatic promotion spots - at least until their game against Middlesbrough.

The Blades demolished Aston Villa earlier in the season, beating them 4-1 in September.

The bookies are struggling to pick a favourite in this one with Aston Villa just about edging it at odds of 31/20 (2.55) at bet365. Sheffield United are just longer at odds of 17/10 (2.70) and the draw is at 23/10 (3.30).

Sheffield United have no injuries or suspensions but their new signing Scott Hogan cannot play against his parent club in this fixture.

Aston Villa's key man Jack Grealish is still out injured as is goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.

This is a clash of two talented squads, one in form and one out of form.

Aston Villa do have it in them to turn their fortunes around and they are only four points off of the top six, so they still have it all to play for.

The Blades have promotion in their sights and these are the type of games they have to be winning if they want to go up.

This, however, is the beginning of a tough run for Sheffield United as they have to face Middlesbrough and West Brom before the end of this month.

Both teams have substantial firepower up top with Villa's Tammy Abraham and United's Billy Sharp both netting 19 times, making them the joint-top scorers in the division.

With the two most prolific strikers in the division facing off, over 2.5 goals at 4/5 (1.80) with bet365 looks like a banker.

But with Villa's dip in form and Sheffield United's resilience in recent weeks, it looks like the best bet is backing the Blades to win at odds of 17/10 (2.70).

With the third-best team in the league coming up against a team who have won just once in their last six games those odds look huge, especially considering the Blades' extra incentive as they have a chance to move to the top of the league.
