Betting Tips: Tranmere vs Tottenham

  /  autty

This FA Cup third round clash sees Spurs as huge favourites, but the value could lie in waiting for the goal-mouth action to begin at Prenton Park

The FA Cup third round gets underway as Tottenham travel to Tranmere Rovers on Friday evening.

The League Two hosts are 888Sport's 12/1 (13.0) outsiders to spring what would be a big shock. Spurs are understandably red-hot favourites at 1/5 (1.20) with the same firm to confirm their superiority.

Tottenham have progressed from 17 of their last 18 FA Cup ties against opponents from a lower league. The exception came in the 2012-13 campaign courtesy of a 2-1 reverse at the hands of Leeds United.

A draw on home soil promises a lucrative replay for Micky Mellon's side and that's an 11/2 (6.50) shot.

It would be no surprise to see plenty of rotation from Mauricio Pochettino with this being the sixth fixture in just 16 days. Tranmere sit just outside the play-off places domestically and this is one of the tougher trips in the fourth tier.

While the odds demonstrate the gap in quality between these teams, the hosts will feel confident they can make life difficult for Spurs, especially in the early stages.

Tranmere's home record has seen them win eight of their 13 league games at this venue. What's most striking about their statistics though, is the fact that those matches have seen Rovers concede just five times.

With the likelihood of some new faces coming into the visiting line-up, it could take a little while for the Premier League outfit to get going, especially in unfamiliar surroundings.

Under 2.5 goals is available at 31/20 (2.55) but instead the best option looks to be the 13/10 (2.30) with 888Sport about no goal being scored before the half hour mark.

Tranmere have conceded just one league goal in this time frame and so the 13/10 (2.30) about a repeat looks too big to ignore on this occasion.

The hosts haven't found a huge amount of joy going forward in the early parts of their home matches either this term, scoring just four times before the 31st minute.

Those seeking a bigger price could consider the Draw/Spurs result in the Half Time/Full time betting which pays 10/3 (4.33) with 888Sport at the time of writing.

It would be no surprise to see Tottenham come out on top in the end, but the hosts are well versed at making things tricky for their visitors in the early going.
