Legendary sprinter and massive Manchester United fan Usain Bolt called up Raheem Sterling to thank him for stopping Liverpool from winning the Premier League.

The nine-time Olympic gold medalist was desperate for City to pip the Reds, which they did on the final day of a dramatic campaign.

'That's the only time I've cheered for City in my entire life,' the Jamaican told the Sportsman.

'I'm so happy, I called Raheem and was like "well done bloke!".'

United themselves endured a tumultous season, parting ways with Jose Mourinho before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed interim and then permanent manager.

Bolt believes that injuries to key men played their part.

'It was good until all the players got injured. For some reason after Rashford, Martial, Mata all these guys got injured and they came back, it was like they were totally different.

'For me, I know other times they have the drive so hopefully we can pick up a few new players this season.'

And the 32-year-old was also asked who he wants United to sign this offseason in their bid to get back into the Champions League

'I don't know who we are going to get because we have a new gaffer,' he replied.

'Do the players that want to come here have the confidence? That's the question,' he concluded.
