Arsenal's pre-season began in thrilling fashion as a youthful side led by Under-23s head coach Steve Bould battled back from a 3-1 deficit to claim a 3-3 draw at Conference side Boreham Wood.

Tyreece John-Jules struck twice in the second half, the latter from the penalty spot, to earn the draw for the young guns, who had conceded three goals in the first half through kamikaze defending.

Goalkeeper Karl Hein had been at fault for both goals as first Tyrone Marsh and then Pedro Mingoia struck in the opening 15 minutes. Matthew Smith briefly halved Boreham Wood's lead after fine interplay with Zech Medley but Adam McDonnell profited from more lax Arsenal defending to restore the hosts' two goal lead.

However the second half addition of John-Jules and Xavier Amaechi proved to be inspired, the two combining for Arsenal's second before the Gunners won a penalty from the latter's corner, earning an impressive draw.
