Bournemouth star Joshua King insists that his winner against his former club Manchester United is "a bit extra special".

The Cherries defeated United 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium thanks to King, who spent five years at the Old Trafford outfit during the early stages of his career.

The forward joined the Manchester giants in 2008 and was part of the development team for two years under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who now manages the senior squad.

King said: "For me it's a bit extra special because you score against your former club, your former team-mates some of them and your former manager for the ressies, Ole.

"I didn't know Ole before I went to United, but I still speak to him when I see him because he was my manager for two years.

"I turned 21 and I said to myself 'I need to go away and play first team football'. When I made my debut I was 17 but the United team back then was magnificent.

"I believed I could be a squad player, but I had a lot of injuries at United and I don't want to use that as an excuse but it pushed me back every time I got going.

"I just grew into more of a man and I said, 'I don't feel I'm getting a chance here, I need to move on, to focus on me and to provide for my family', And that's what I did.

"And today I'm playing Premier League football at a high level for the fifth year in a row.

"Of course it was hard to leave. It was the biggest club in the world at that moment with their history and with Sir Alex Ferguson.

"When you move there when you're 16 you know it's going to be tough but you believe that you're going to make it there.

"You'd try to get a chance and Sir Alex used to give games to some of the young boys like Macheda and Welbeck to give them confidence.

"But I never felt I got that chance so I had to think about myself."
