Dean Huijsen is a transfer target for a host of Premier League clubs who now know what it will take financially to sign him from high-flying Bournemouth.
The centre half, 19, has been key to the Cherries’ pursuit of European football under head coach Andoni Iraola having arrived from Juventus.
And while a number of players, including forwards Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo, are receiving admiring glances from a host of top clubs, Hujsen has won plenty of admirers.
Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are among those said to be keeping tabs and it has now been reported that he has a release clause of £50m that will be active in the summer window.
Bournemouth signed Huijsen last summer for £12.5m on a six-year contract with Juve likely regretting their decision. The teenager has played at youth level for both the Netherlands and Spain.
Speaking in December of how impressed he has been with Huijsen since his arrival at Bournemouth, Iraola said: “I think he has shown from the beginning that he can do this.
“He plays with confidence and even though he is 19-years-old he has played a few games. But now with the injury to Marcos [Senesi], he for sure will have to play more.
“It is not always easy to play as a defender in the Premier League, but I hope the young players can grow together and continue their development. The good thing for them is that they have room to improve.”
Bournemouth are fifth in the Premier League table, a point behind Manchester City on 43.
They host Wolves this coming weekend before welcoming Vitor Pereira's side to the south coast again a week later for an FA Cup fifth round tie. Between that they have a midweek visit to Brighton and Hove Albion.
Huijsen last month made it clear that Europe was the target. "We’re doing well and I think we can qualify for Europe. We have the quality and the potential," he told the Guardian.
"Who wouldn’t want to play in Europe? I think everyone would like that. It would go down in the history of the club. It would be great for all of the players, fans and everyone involved. I think it is realistic with how we are playing.
"We are doing well and all of the stats show that it’s not just luck and we deserve to be here. We just need to keep on working hard, stay humble and continue proving ourselves."
