Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Pec scored a stunning volley in Vasco de Gama's Carioca state league victory at Madureira - in a goal that is eerily similar to James Rodriguez's 2014 World Cup thunderbolt.
The 20-year-old winger took just five minutes of the state championship game to score his effort on Sunday, bringing down a clearance before hitting a brilliant left-footed volley that flew into the top corner after the ball swerved in the air.
Fans on social media immediately noticed the similarity between Pec's wonderstrike and the goal Colombian midfielder James scored for his country in their 2014 World Cup last-16 clash against Uruguay.
James' stunning goal for Colombia nearly eight years ago was awarded the 2014 Puskas Award, which is given by FIFA for the best goal in a calendar year.
Pec's club, Vasco de Gama, have already deemed their winger's strike on Sunday as a suitable contender for the award, tagging FIFA in a tweet of the goal with the hashtag #Puskas2022.
A supporter added: 'PUSKAS HIM! If James won with the same goal, Gabriel Pec deserves it too!'
Another tweeted: 'This goal by Gabriel Pec reminded me a lot of James Rodríguez's goal against Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup. (I know it wasn't on the same side, but I'm talking about the way to control the ball and finish it)'
Meanwhile, one fan said: 'Simply Puskas 2022, Gabriel pec. Totally pornographic and banned in 256 countries. James Rodriguez's goal is beautiful but it doesn't even take effect and the ball is in the middle of the goal'
A Vasco de Gama fan claimed: 'Deliver the (Puskas) prize immediately.'
The Brazilian youngster has got his 2022 campaign in Brazil off to a brilliant start by scoring two goals in four games this season. He only netted one goal in Brazil's second tier for Vasco de Gama last season, but appears to have found his scoring touch this term.
