Alexis Mac Aillster has a complex clause in his Brighton contract that could yet faciliate a move away from the Amex Stadium this summer.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with the Argentina World Cup winner, who has shone for a Seagulls side pushing for a European place as we enter the final throes of the Premier League season.
The 'mechanism' in his terms is not a 'typical release clause', as reported by the Athletic's David Ornstein, but it does provide fresh encouragement for the Reds - and other suitors - in their pursuit of the 24-year-old.
Ornstein has claimed: 'It is understood the terms [of Mac Allister's contract] do, indeed, contain a mechanism which can be used to help facilitate a move and that has contributed to the level of interest building to prise Mac Allister from Brighton.'
The same publication also claims that Mac Allister is not the only Brighton star who's immediate future is up in the air.
Moises Caicedo was the subject of intense speculation in January, with the club turning down multiple offers from Arsenal. Chelsea were also heavily linked.
Arsenal decided not to continue to push the South Coast club, in fear of not risking their relationship over any future transfer dealings.
Arsenal instead ended up signing Jorginho from Chelsea, while Caicedo signed an extended contract with the Seagulls earlier this year in the aftermath.
FourFourTwo have gone one step further, claiming that the Ecuadorian possesses a similar clause in his deal to the one that Mac Allister has.
However, Mail Sport understands this is not the case.
Brighton are bracing themselves for a summer attack on their playing staff after their successful season under Roberto De Zerbi.
Along with Arsenal, Liverpool have also been linked with a move for Caicedo, while Mac Allister is attracting attention from both clubs as well.
Caicedo has played 38 times for the Seagulls this season, scoring once and played an integral part in their run to the FA Cup semi-finals and their chase for a European spot in the Premier League.
