Brighton owner: There should be no relegations if season cannot be completed

Brighton owner Tony Bloom is against any idea of relegating clubs if the Premier League season cannot be completed.

Brighton currently sit in 15th place in the Premier League table, with Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Norwich occupying the relegation spots.

"It would be very difficult to relegate somebody, particularly from the Premier League, if the season hasn't played out," Bloom said.

The situation in England's top flight is tricky because not every club has played the same number of games due to cup commitments.

Therefore, a points-per-game system has been mentioned as a way of deciding league positions.

"It's unfathomable that a team may lose out on 0.2 of a point based on points per game," Bloom said.

"Also, it does not take into account the strength of the teams you have played.

"You may get a title winner, obviously Liverpool deserve it, you may use that criteria for European qualification, but I do not see how anyone can vote for that, certainly the percent needed for teams to get relegated. I really cannot foresee that."
