The news of Bruno Fernandes agreeing a new contract at Manchester United will allow many fans to breathe a little easier, but despite his impressive performances on the pitch, the Portuguese midfielder will be just the seventh-highest paid player in the Red Devils' squad.
Recent seasons have seen the wages paid by United come under scrutiny, with David de Gea coming in for a lot of criticism a couple of years ago, while there are a number of players who would struggle to earn similar sums at other clubs.
Out-of-form players like Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire are in eighth and ninth spot in terms of the highest earners on 200,000 pounds a week and 190,000 pounds a week respectively. Meanwhile, forgotten man Juan Mata is still making 160,000 pounds a week to warm the bench.
There will be few who are surprised to see that Cristiano Ronaldo is the highest-earning player in the United squad on an eye-watering 480,000 pounds a week - 105,000 pounds a week more than De Gea in second place.
The top five is rounded out by Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Paul Pogba in third, fourth and fifth respectively. The English winger makes 350,000 pounds a week, while the French centre-back and midfielder bring in 340,000 pounds a week and 290,000 pounds a week respectively.
