Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he is determined to end his goal drought.

Fernandes has been a regular source of goals during his United career but has yet to find the net in any competition this season.

The midfielder admitted that he has performed below his own expectations.

Fernandes told United's official website: 'As for the club, I want to improve as soon as I get there, and make sure the goals start coming again.

'I have to take responsibility for that too, because I'm a midfielder who scores a lot of goals, and over the years, I've always been at a very high level in terms of goals and I have to live up to that, with those expectations.

'I also have my own standards, I don't hold back on that.

'I haven't scored for the club yet and I hope that as soon as I get there I can score and help the club get back to winning ways and to a good level.'

United have endured their worst ever start to a Premier League season and have gone five games without a win in all competitions, drawing four of them.

There remains much uncertainty at United at present, especially with regards to the future of manager Erik ten Hag.

United are back in action after the international break when they host Brentford.

Since joining from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, Fernandes has scored 79 goals in 244 games for United.

In addition, he has contributed with 70 assists.

This season Fernandes has still managed to provide four assists, but he will be eager to score soon.

Scoring goals has been a collective problem for United this season - they have scored just five times in the Premier League.

Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho are United's joint-top scorers in all competitions this season with four goals each.
