Bukayo Saka equals Gareth Bale benchmark in Arsenal’s clash with Tottenham

Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka has today equalled an impressive benchmark, after being handed his latest North London Derby start.

Rivalries renewed

The latest NLD is of course currently playing out at the Emirates.

On the back of a timely upturn in form over the last couple of weeks, Arsenal play host to their long-time city rivals, aware that a win would guide them, remarkably, to within five points of the Premier League’s summit.

Not only that, but the Gunners would also move level on points with their opponents this evening, despite Spurs having rattled off a trio of successive victories to open the campaign.

As things stand early in the action at the Emirates, the scoreline remains locked at 0-0.

Saka matches Bale

One of those tasked with breaking down an increasingly shaky visitors backline in the English capital this evening is of course Bukayo Saka.

English international Saka, despite his tender years, has long established himself as a crucial member of Mikel Arteta’s frontline, culminating in an inevitable start wide right on Sunday evening.

And, as outlined above, in the process of taking to the pitch from the off, the 20-year-old etched his name into the recent history books of the North London Derby.

As revealed by statisticians Opta, Saka has become the first player since Gareth Bale to start in as many as three Premier League derby showdowns on the north half of the capital before turning 21.
