A collection of Burnley fans were seen to be booing players taking the knee during their opening Premier League clash of the season against Manchester City.
The pre-kick off gesture designed to signal opposition to racism has been a familiar sight to Premier League supporters since 2020, but has unfortunately suffered some backlash from a minority of fans.
Now it seems Turf Moor has been the setting for a small number of voices from the crowd to voice their opinion on the anti-racism stance.
Boos could be heard from a small number of Burnley fans as players from both the Clarets and Manchester City took the knee before the opening game of the Premier League season.
The reaction could be heard on the live coverage of the game, as Burnley kicked-off their return to the top flight against Pep Guardiola's reigning champions.
It isn't the first time Burnley fans have voiced a displeasure at players taking the knee, they were accused of the same reaction during a game against Brighton in their last stint in the Premier League.
At the time, then-captain Ben Mee spoke out against the small number of fans, expressing his disappointment at hearing the boos.
'It's disappointing to hear that, but there was a lot of applause after it,' he said. 'Obviously disappointing to hear the booing.
'I don't know how many times we need to reiterate as players the reasons why we are continuing to take the knee.
'It gets to a point where, if you are booing, it doesn't look good on those individuals does it?
'Continue to support us and support us in what we are trying to achieve as a group of players and a football community.
'We don't need to keep reiterating why we are doing it - and support would be more than welcome.'
Things didn't go much better for Vincent Kompany on the pitch either, with his Burnley side going 1-0 down to the Premier League champions inside three minutes.
