Moises Caicedo has taken to social media to send a personal message after completing his British-record £115million transfer from Brighton to Chelsea

Moises Caicedo has delivered a passionate message to Brighton supporters following his blockbuster £115million switch to Chelsea this summer transfer window.

Caicedo, 21, earned rave reviews for his displays on the south coast and was subject to widespread interest in his signature before Chelsea won that particular race. Arsenal wanted the midfielder in January before what has been an intense bidding war between Chelsea and Liverpool.

After completing his big move, the Ecuador international explained exactly what drew him to Stamford Bridge as the player rebuffed interest from Anfield this summer. However, in his follow-up message on social media, Caicedo has also reached out to Brighton.

In a post on Twitter accompanied by a video montage of his time with the Seagulls, he said: "I close an unforgettable chapter in my life. Since my first steps in Europe, you showered me with love and support.

"In every match, in every minute on the pitch, I felt your cheers and energy.

"We achieved a lot together. How can I forget our qualification for the UEFA Europa League! This achievement belongs to all, each of my teammates, and to you, who were always there. Being chosen as the best player of the season is an honour I share with every team member.

"The time has come to face new challenges, but I want you to know that my love for this club and for all of you remains intact. I will always be a Seagull at heart, carrying with pride the fact of having been part of this family.

"Thank you for everything, Brighton! We’ll see you on the journey.

"With affection, Moises Caicedo."

Having progressed through the youth system at Independiente, in his homeland, Caicedo touched down in the UK with Brighton in February 2021. Initially sent out on loan to Belgian side Beerschot, he made 53 appearances for the Seagulls in all competitions with two goals and three assists.

His transfer fee, which stands at a staggering £115million, is the new Premier League record and came following an intense few days between the parties involved. Caicedo has penned an eight-year contract, while football.london understands £15million of the amount paid to Brighton will come through add-ons.

Speaking about his new club, Caicedo told CFC media: "I'm so happy to join Chelsea! I am so excited to be here at this big club and I didn't have to think twice when Chelsea called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for the club. It's a dream come true to be here and I can't wait to get started with the team."
