Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga (20) is expected to be called up by Les Bleus’ boss Didier Deschamps as a left-back, according to a report from RMC Sport.
Deschamps is expected to name a squad on Thursday, largely composed of players who featured in the 2022 World Cup. Les Bleus begin their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign by hosting The Netherlands at the Stade de France on March 24th, before travelling to Dublin to face Ireland three days later.
With Bayern Munich’s Lucas Hernandez (27) on a path to recovery after sustaining a serious ACL injury during France’s World Cup opener against Australia, Deschamps is poised to confirm Camavinga as a backup for AC Milan’s Théo Hernandez (25) on the defensive left flank.
The former Rennes midfielder was used as a left-back by Deschamps in Qatar. Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti also used him as a left-back at the Club World Cup in early February and five times in La Liga most recently, even if it is not Camavinga’s favourite position.
In defence, Deschamps is expected to call up Bayern’s Dayot Upamecano (24), Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté (23) and Arsenal’s William Saliba (21). The fourth and last centre-back to be called up should be Chelsea’s Wesley Fofana (22).
