Cardiff City have completed the signing of Heidenheim striker Robert Glatzel in a deal worth up to £5.5million.

Glatzel scored 17 goals last season, including a hat-trick during a 5-4 German Cup defeat against star-studded Bayern Munich in April.

Middlesbrough and Brentford had also trailed Glatzel, who netted a hat-trick in a friendly against the former last week.

But Cardiff won the race after he completed a medical on Tuesday ahead of agreeing the deal on Wednesday morning.

'I'm very happy to be here,' he told the club's website.

'I can't wait to get to work, get to know the fans and start the season.

'I'm a tall player and heading is a good attribute for me, but I can also play with the ball. I think I have good technique for my height, so will hopefully show the fans that and fit in well here.

'As a striker you always want to score goals to help the team. Of course, I want to score as many goals as possible.'

Cardiff have been on the lookout for a replacement for Kenneth Zahore after the Dane joined West Brom for £8m.
