The Cardiff City member of staff who formed the closest relationship with the late Emiliano Sala during his tragically brief time on their books has left the club.
Sportsmail has learned that Callum Davies, Cardiff's player liaison officer, has moved on for family reasons after six years working at a club he joined immediately after graduating from university.
Davies had been responsible for planning Sala's travel following his £15million signing from Nantes on January 15 this year before the Argentinian striker took the decision to accept a private flight organised by agent Willie McKay.
That Piper Malibu light aircraft crashed 22 miles off Guernsey on January 21 while travelling from Nantes to Cardiff, and Sala's body was found in the wreckage.
The body of pilot David Ibbotson has never been found.
Davies had been waiting for Sala at Cardiff Airport on that fateful night and was left to alert the authorities when the plane carrying the club's record signing failed to arrive.
Along with many at the club, the 28-year-old was badly affected by Sala's death and was one of just three Cardiff employees to attend his funeral in Argentina. Manager Neil Warnock and chief executive Ken Choo were the others.
A fluent French and Spanish speaker, Davies formed a relationship with Sala while organising his travel from France.
A series of WhatsApp messages leaked to French newspaper Ouest-France in March showed the pair exchanging jokes, with Davies also offering Sala the option of taking a commercial flight from Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris to Cardiff, which he rejected for the aircraft offered by McKay.
Davies was a popular member of staff at Cardiff, where his departure was a surprise.
The club's players have been told that he chose to leave as his wife was offered a job in Dubai, where he is looking for work.
