Carragher admits he was mistaken about Pogba

Jamie Carragher has admitted that he was mistaken about Paul Pogba following the Manchester United midfielder's upturn in form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's arrival.

The World Cup winner continued his resurgence under the interim boss in United's 2-0 victory over Chelsea on Monday night. Pogba provided the assist for Ander Herrera's opener and he doubled United's lead just before the break.

The former Liverpool defender was reminded of what he said about the 25-year-old earlier in the season on Twitter.

'If Mourinho goes you won't see a new Pogba,' Carragher told Sky Sports in September.

'He's not as a good as he thinks he is. His big problem is his understanding of the game. You can sum up his performances in his last two games – a great goal vs Young Boys but he was at fault for Wolves' goal.

'He would have the big clubs going in for him but Barcelona would be the biggest ill fit for him. Pogba plays for himself. He's not really a captain. He's let his agent speak ill of the club. He's not the man.

'I don't think he's disciplined to play in Mourinho's midfield.'

Carragher replied to the Tweet, saying: 'Well I hope you completely disagreed at the time & not just now?!!

'He’s been a revelation since OGS came in because he’s basically let him play without defending. I didn’t see this turnaround so I have no problem saying I was wrong.

'But I won’t change my stance that Pogba should have delivered a lot more for Man Utd/Jose in those first two years no matter what the system or set up. [sic]'

In the context of the Premier League, no player has provided more assists (6) or contributed to more goals (15) than Pogba since Solskjaer's arrival.
