Carragher calls out Abdo's devastated reaction to Man Utd's Europa League loss

Jamie Carragher jokingly questioned Kate Abdo's impartiality after the presenter's heartbroken reaction to Manchester United's Europa League final defeat was caught on camera.

Abdo was born in Manchester and supports United, and had to watch on nervously as 21 consecutive penalties were scored in the shootout to force David de Gea to step up to the spot.

Carragher, who is a pundit on the CBS Sports show, provided his own commentary on Abdo's reaction as the United goalkeeper missed the crucial penalty.

'When you're the presenter of a show, I'm sure you have to be impartial,' Carragher joked.

'Show no emotion, whether that's in victory or defeat. And there was something that we saw...'

The video then showed Abdo's devastated reaction as United lost the shootout, throwing her head into her hands as De Gea saw his tame effort saved.

Micah Richards and Jamie Carragher could be heard laughing hysterically and celebrating as United lost in cruel fashion, with the pair teasing the presenter and suggesting she was crying at the result.

'No I wasn't crying, let's not go overboard,' Abdo responded.

Richards, the former Manchester City man, was somewhat less disappointed at the result, and gleefully shouted, 'David de Gea, from hero to zero!'

The Spanish goalkeeper was once again picked to start in the Europa League, having also done so in both legs of the quarter final and semi final for United.

However, some suggested Dean Henderson should have been brought on at the end of extra-time as he is the better choice between the sticks for a penalty shootout.

Not including shootouts, Henderson has saved seven of his last 15 penalties faced, while De Gea has conceded all of his last 16.

Ole Gunnar Solskajer stuck with the Spaniard and while it was De Gea who brought an end to the shootout, few would have expected the 30-year-old's ability taking a penalty to have been the deciding factor in the final.
