Carragher mocks Ronaldo's frosty hand-shake with Bruno

Jamie Carragher has hilariously mocked Cristiano Ronaldo's awkward hand-shake with Manchester United team-mate Bruno Fernandes.

Ronaldo has grabbed all the headlines following a bombshell interview, in which he claimed he felt betrayed by the club and that he didn't respect Erik ten Hag because the Dutchman 'doesn't respect him'.

Just a day after the interview first came to light, Ronaldo and Fernandes had a frosty exchange as the Portugal squad met up on Monday ahead of the Qatar World Cup.

Sky Sports pundit Carragher has taken to social media to make light of the tense greeting by comparing it to an awkward handshake of his own.

Carragher posted a picture of his awkward looking handshake with Steven Gerrard, when he interviewed his former Liverpool team-mate in the early days of his unsuccessful spell as Aston Villa manager.

Despite the pair being good friends, Carragher and Gerrard appeared to be far from happy, looking in opposite directions as they shook hands at Aston Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground.

Alongside the image which has become a meme on social media, he posted a replica of the photo but with Fernandes and Ronaldo's faces over those of Gerrard and his own.

It was an apt comparison for what appeared to be a much less friendly greeting than expected for two players who are set to go out to try and help deliver Portugal their first ever World Cup.

As previously reported, Carragher has claimed Ronaldo is trying to get sacked following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan on Talk TV.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher claimed it is 'obvious' that Ronaldo 'wants to be sacked' before suggesting the club should give him what he wants for their own benefit.

'I just thought the comments were bizarre', said the former Liverpool defender.

'They were bang out of order considering with the timing of it as well on the back of Manchester United getting a winning goal with the last kick of the game [against Fulham]. It gives them an excitement over the next month for when the league starts again.

'He wants to be sacked, that's obvious. He told the club in the summer that he wanted to leave, which is football – these things happen. There were no takers, maybe because of his wages or the price Manchester United wanted.

'I think he knows that's going to be the same in this next transfer window and maybe the following summer and he is now trying to be sacked or wants to leave on a free. That's the only way he's going to get out.

'United don't need the hassle of Ronaldo. I think they should sack him or move him on by giving him a free transfer. At the moment, they're trying to build something that is not trying to win the Premier League or the Champions League right now. The manager will want to push for those honours in the next two or three years and Ronaldo is not going to be around.'

Since Ronaldo joined last year, Carragher has been persistent in his viewpoint that signing the 37-year-old was a mistake by the Red Devils.

The Portuguese superstar famously snubbed the Carragher when he shook the hands of Roy Keane and Gary Neville while ignoring the Liverpool legend ahead of the Reds' 2-1 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Neville though would have his turn to be snubbed by Ronaldo before United's victory over Tottenham - the same game that the forward refused to come on as a substitute.

In his interview with Morgan, Ronaldo accused Neville of using him to boost his own profile.

Neville took to Twitter to say: 'Anyone for dinner?' in response to Ronaldo's comments about them not being friends or socialising together.
