The second qualifying round of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League began on Tuesday with 13 matches. Former champions, established European names, as well as minnows were involved in the action.

The round's blockbuster game was at Ibrox, where Rangers defeated Panathinaikos 2-0. It was far from a comfortable victory for the home side, who nearly conceded 19 minutes in. Erik Palmer-Brown was denied fantastically by Jack Butland, who sprawled across the middle of his goal to deny the centre-back.

Rangers, who had never beaten their Greek opponents in four previous head-to-heads, went in front seven minutes after the restart. Butland got the ball forward quickly, before Findlay Curtis curled a well-hit shot beyond Bartlomiej Dragowski to give his side the lead.

Panathinaikos would be reduced to 10 men a few minutes later, as Georgios Vagiannidis picked up his second yellow of the match. That proved costly, as the 'Gers took control of the match from there. Djeidi Gassama added a second 12 minutes from time as the Scottish Premiership team takes a two-goal cushion to the Greek capital.

The most surprising result of the day came in North Macedonia, as Shkendija shocked former European Cup winners FCSB 1-0. Ibrahim Alhassan scored the only goal of the game as the teams were reduced to 10 men nine minutes apart towards the end. The result leaves the side from Tetovo 90 minutes away from becoming the second club from their country to participate in a continental group phase,

Elsewhere, Lech Poznan came away with a dominant 7-1 success over Breidablik. The visitors were reduced to 10 men shortly past the half hour mark. From there, the Poles were in complete control, as Mikael Ishak scored a hat-trick of penalties.

Crvena zvezda, the other former winners in this round, prevailed 1-0 in Gibraltar versus Lincoln Red Imps despite playing down a man for 49 minutes. It was a similar for Ferencvaros, who edged Armenia's FC Noah 2-1 away. The only difference was, they only had to survive a man light for eight minutes plus stoppage time.

Several of Europe's more established sides from lesser-known leagues, such as Dynamo Kyiv, FC Kobenhavn, Slovan Bratislava, and Malmo, won without issue as well. As for Finland's KuPS Kuopio, they find themselves 90 minutes away from a maiden appearance in a UEFA club competition proper after defeating Milsami Orhei 2-0.

Samuel Mraz's 13th minute goal gave Servette a 1-0 victory in Czechia against Viktoria Plzen, the same side who eliminated them on penalties in the UEFA Conference League knockout round playoffs two seasons ago.

The only games that ended in draws occurred in Cyprus and Croatia. Paphos grabbed a 1-1 stalemate against Maccabi Tel Aviv, while Rijeka and Ludogorets could not find the back of the net in their matchup.

Wednesday has two matches taking place, as Norwegian outfit Brann welcome RB Salzburg, and Shelbourne look for a scalp against Qarabag.
