According to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté (24) has been forced to withdraw from the France squad. He has been replaced by Chelsea’s Axel Disasi (25).
Konaté suffered a minor hamstring injury during the warm-up for Liverpool’s UEFA Europa League defeat against Toulouse FC on Thursday. As a result, he was absent from the Merseyside club’s 3-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday. He will also be absent from France’s games against Gibraltar and Greece, according to Hawkins. Konaté will need two weeks to return to full fitness.
Jürgen Klopp criticised Didier Deschamps’ management of Konaté in the previous international break. The Liverpool manager believed that his player was over-utilised during the international break. Disasi, who had initially missed out on the squad, will take his place. The former AS Monaco centre-back started in Chelsea’s thrilling 4-4 draw against Manchester City on Sunday and will now be heading to Clairefontaine to join up with his France teammates.
