Chelsea transfer news: The Blues are looking at the possibility of completing a deal to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer after the France star was put up for sale

The Blues have long been linked with a move for the France star, as one of the only clubs in England who could legitimately afford to sign the 24-year-old.

Chelsea could have signed Mbappe when he was just 12 years old, following a trial at the club, but they did not take up the option. Mbappe said: "I played up front, but I don't think I scored. It was great – it was my first experience abroad and a chance for me to see what the game was like in England."

Former Chelsea scout Daniel Boga explained why it did not work out. He said: "When [Mbappe] has the ball... amazing. He pushes the ball and you can't see him anymore. You could see that he had something special. When he went to his trial, I don't think he saw that he had the opportunity to give everything to sign for Chelsea."

They now have the chance to rectify that mistake with Mbappe put up for sale by PSG. Mbappe has just one year left on his contract at Paris Saint-Germain and has no intention of signing a new deal.

"He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it's not my fault. We don't want to lose the best player in the world for free, that's very clear."

As a result, the French side have put the 24-year-old up for sale having left him out of their squad for their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea. PSG believe Mbappe has already agreed terms on a deal with Real Madrid next summer, but want to get money for the frontman before such a situation comes to pass.

Chelsea are understood to be exploring the possibility of signing him and they have been given an indication of how much they would need to shell out to sign him this summer.

PSG are looking for a fee in the region of £160million to sell Mbappe this summer - astronomical for a player with just one year left on his contract. Then there are his wages.
