Kai Havertz has excited Chelsea fans by liking an 'announce Havertz' tweet in response to the Premier League club's confirmation of Timo Werner's signing.

Sportsmail revealed Chelsea's interest in the Bayer Leverkusen and Germany star earlier this month though the Blues are certain to face stiff competition for his signature.

But that hasn't stopped their supporters believing Havertz, 21, has dropped them a huge hint.

Chelsea's official account tweeted out some comments from Werner, their new £53m signing from RB Leipzig, on Thursday afternoon.

Among the hundreds of replies, Twitter user Masoud Karimis wrote 'Announce Havertz'.

And there was then a sensation when Havertz's official account liked Masoud's post with Chelsea fans pouncing on it as a sign he will be following Germany team-mate Werner to Stamford Bridge.

Havertz is enjoying an excellent season with Leverkusen, scoring 16 goals and contributing nine assists. He is in especially fine form since the Bundesliga's restart last month, scoring six times.

He scored and supplied an assist as Leverkusen defeated Cologne 3-1 on Wednesday evening to move back into the Champions League places.

Chelsea would have to spend £75m or more to sign Havertz, who is under contract until 2022, and they have already bought Werner and £38m Hakim Ziyech.

Havertz has also attracted the attention of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich but Chelsea may be encouraged by reports that the youngster would favour a move to England.
