Chelsea have forged a five-man transfer shortlist in the hope of luring a high-profile midfielder to Stamford Bridge, as the Blues chiefs prepare to let Jorginho leaves the club on a free transfer, according to reports.
Chairman Todd Boehly, who this week stepped down as the club's interim sporting director and handed recruitment responsibility to Paul Winstanley and Christopher Vivell, is reportedly eager to retain star midfielders N'Golo Kante and Mason Mount on fresh deals.
The Blues made a verbal agreement to sign out-of-favour Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix on a £9million loan move until the end of the season, but it is understood the west London club would also like to bolster Graham Potter's midfield after a lacklustre start to the campaign.
Despite placing Benfica star Enzo Fernandez at the top of their list of transfer targets, negotiations have stalled with the Portuguese club unwilling to let the World Cup winner walk for a fee worth less than his £112m buyout clause.
Fernandez is joined on Chelsea's list of big-money targets by Brighton pair Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, as well as England internationals Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham, according to The Telegraph.
