Chelsea have given Derby permission to field loan starlet Mason Mount when the two sides meet in the League Cup at the end of the month.

The Blues could have stopped Mount from appearing against them in the fourth round but have decided he can appear in the cup clash.

Mount starred in Derby's impressive penalty shootout win against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the third round and was given a senior England call up by Gareth Southgate this month.

The 19-year-old did not feature for the Three Lions but it was further recognition of his talent.

In allowing Mount and fellow loanee Fikayo Tomori to play, Chelsea have also given Derby boss Frank Lampard a huge favour.

A statement on Chelsea's official website read: 'Chelsea Football Club has today granted Derby County permission to select loanees Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori for next week’s Carabao Cup fourth-round fixture.

'Unlike in the Premier League, EFL Cup rules allow for clubs in the competition to make such agreements for players to appear against their parent clubs.

'Mount and Tomori have been regulars for the Rams under Frank Lampard this season, and, after beating Manchester United at Old Trafford in the previous round, we believe the experience of facing top-level opposition once more will be of benefit to their on-going development at Derby.'

Mount has made 16 appearances for Derby since joining the Rams on loan while Tomori has featured in 15 games.
