Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa winked at the cameras after snubbing Sarri

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga appeared to wink at the cameras following his bizarre on-field snubbing of manager Maurizio Sarri.

Kepa went down injured in the final moments of extra-time in the Carabao Cup final with Manchester City, and Sarri readied sub-keeper Willy Caballero to come on.

Caballero was ready and waiting on the touchline, but Kepa insisted his fitness and defied his manager's orders to leave.

As the tie then moved into the penalty shootout stage, Kepa was seen winking into the broadcasters' camera - moments after refusing to leave the field.

It is likely the young Spaniard was winking into the lens to showcase his confidence ahead of the shootout, though the timing was seen to be poor in nature.

The world's most expensive 'keeper remained between the sticks for the shootout, but made an error in allowing Sergio Aguero's tame effort to slip under his grasp.

Misses from Jorginho and David Luiz allowed Raheem Sterling to step up for the decisive kick, which he dispatched with aplomb while sending Kepa the wrong way.

Following the match Sarri played down the incident, referring to the bizarre Wembley scenes as a 'misunderstanding.'

'I understood there was a problem and we needed a change, then I realised the situation only when the doctor arrived to the bench after 4 minutes, so it was a big misunderstanding,' Sarri told Sky Sports.

'I understood that the goalkeeper had cramp, so for me he was unable to go to the penalties. But the problem was not a cramp, so he was able to go to the penalties.'
