Former Chelsea legend Eidur Gudjohnsen has revealed how he nearly signed for Liverpool.
According to Gudjohnsen, Vialli was expecting a tough negotiation when the time came to try and do a deal but he needn't have worried
“He didn't know he played the European Cup final against my dad,” says Gudjohnsen.
“Vialli played for Sampdoria, my father played for Anderlecht.
“They swapped shirts because I'd asked my dad to get me a Vialli shirt. So I didn't take much persuading.
“Initially I thought I would be moving to Liverpool.
“Gerard Houllier showed a lot of interest, he'd been at a lot of our games. That was the one before Chelsea came in.
“When Luca called, that was it.”
