Chelsea news: Strasbourg supporters continued their protests against BlueCo's £65million takeover of the club in their 2-0 win over Toulouse on Sunday
Chelsea's purchase of Ligue 1 side Strasbourg has continued to cause anger among the club's supporters. The company that owns the Blues completed their first move in building a multi-club network by buying the French outfit in June.
BlueCo, consisting of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, invested in a stake in Strasbourg earlier this summer to give them close to 100% ownership in the club. BlueCo paid around £65million for their stake and the Ligue 1 side are in their first campaign under new ownership.
Former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Vieira was appointed head coach shortly after the takeover before Brazilian wonderkid Angelo Gabriel joined the club on a season-long loan after being signed by Chelsea earlier in the summer.
Now, in their 2-0 Ligue 1 win over Toulouse on Sunday, the Strasbourg supporters made their feelings clear once again with another protest against the multi-club model. A banner in the stands read: "Non A La Multi Propriete." Which translates to: '"No to multi-property."
Strasbourg president Mark Keller has previously gone on record to suggest Le Racing will not simply be a developing ground for Chelsea's wonderkids in an attempt to cool any ill-feeling among supporters.
“It isn’t the project," he said in an interview with L'Equipe. “We have had meetings with the sports department to define the objectives. We will have more means to be more ambitious. Loïc Désiré (Strasbourg’s Chief Scout) will have the handle on discussions about players that could interest us if there are any. They also have to want to come to us.”
