Ben Chilwell is reportedly preparing to put pen-to-paper on a new four-year deal at Chelsea after a string of positive performances impressed the club's chaotic hierarchy.

The left-back will soon enter the final two years of his current contract and Chelsea are apparently keen to try and tie him down to a longer deal to ward off interest.

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have been long-term admirers of the attack-minded full-back and could attempt to lure Chilwell north if his future at Stamford Bridge was to remain in doubt.

But his future is expected to stay on-track in the capital at Chelsea as The Athletic report that Chilwell has agreed to extend his contract by two years and stay at the club until 2027.

His decision to commit his future to the turbulent Blues comes as a welcome boost to Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly who wants to stop his top talent from jumping ship.

Chilwell has been one of Chelsea's stars this campaign despite it being a troublesome year for the club who suffered their 11th league defeat of the season away to Wolves at the weekend.

Frank Lampard, in his first game back in interim charge of the club he has earned legendary status at was unable to inspire a comeback after Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes hammered a winner in during the first-half.

Chilwell started his afternoon at Molineux on the bench but impressed when he stepped into the fray and there are suggestions that he is being saved for Chelsea's impending quarter-final Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday.

The decision to reward Chilwell with a new contract could carry an element of risk after the defender has seen large stints of his Chelsea career plagued by injuries.

He lifted the Champions League with the club a year after making his £50million move from Leicester City but was then denied further progression after a serious knee injury saw him go under the knife and forced into the treatment room for over five months.

A hamstring injury this season followed and ruled him out of the Qatar World Cup with England before he returned to club action at the start of February.

Chilwell was favoured by previous manager Graham Potter and the decision to hand him a new deal could be a sign that the next incoming boss is keen to keep the star at the Bridge.
