Chelsea smiles are back as Kepa puts in the work at training to earn his spot

Chelsea's troubles appeared to be nothing but water off a duck's back on Friday as the Blues trained ahead of their west London derby clash with Fulham.

Maurizio Sarri's side recorded a much-needed, confidence-boosting victory over fierce rivals Tottenham on Wednesday, which went some way to help clearing the air following the fallout from the Carabao Cup final last weekend.

Kepa Arrizabalaga caused outrage among fans and pundits alike when he refused to be substituted by coach Sarri, but on Friday he and the Chelsea squad were pictured in good spirits as they prepare for Sunday's Premier League showdown.

The Spanish goalkeeper, who was signed for £72million from Athletic Bilbao last summer, was dropped by Sarri for Willy Caballero on Wednesday night against Tottenham.

The Italian coach has insisted the matter concerning Kepa's indiscipline is now over after the stopper was fined a weeks' wages, but he refused to reveal whether he would to the starting lineup at the Cottage.

'As I said after the match, the Kepa situation is closed,' Sarri said.

'Kepa is our first goalkeeper. But we are very happy for Willy, because now we know very well he's able to play also in a very difficult match.

'I'm sure in one of the two next matches Kepa will be on the pitch.'

Asked if he had made a decision on whether Kepa would return to the starting XI, Sarri added: 'Not at the moment, no. I want to see the last two training (sessions).'

Chelsea take on a Fulham side who will be without coach Claudio Ranieri in the dugout.

The former Premier League winner was sacked following a costly defeat to Southampton on Wednesday, a result which left the White 10 points adrift of safety.

And the Chelsea boss expressed his sorrow at Ranieri's departure, but added that he expects to see a reaction from Fulham under caretaker boss Scott Parker.

'I'm really very sorry,' Sarri said. 'I know very well his character, so I know very well that we will see him very soon on another bench. It was really a very difficult situation from the beginning.

'Usually, when there is a change of coach, there is a reaction. So we have to front the reaction.

'Then it's difficult for us to prepare the match to know their new systems and ideas.'
