Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has proved colossus in the air for Chelsea since the beginning of the 2020-21 campaign, winning an almost perfect 96.3% of his defensive aerial duels.

Frank Lampard's side have tightened up at the back significantly since the beginning of the new season, and the Frenchman has played an integral part in Chelsea's change in defensive fortunes.

CIES Football Observatory have compiled a list of the 100 top players across Europe's leagues who have won the highest percentage of defensive headers since the start of the campaign.

And Zouma sits top of those charts, winning an incredible 26 out of 27 defensive headers - which equates to a success rate of 96.3%.

Zouma just about pips Atalanta's Berat Djimsiti to first place, with the Albanian centre back winning 22 out of 23 duels, working out at 95.7.

Harry Maguire, despite getting off to a turbulent start to the season with Manchester United, makes up the top three.

The England international has won 90% of his aerial battles, beating his man in the air 27 out of 30 times since the season begun.

And Maguire has leapt just above Real Madrid centre back Raphael Varane in the defensive standings.

The Frenchman sits in a tie for fourth, coming out on top in in 22 out of 25 aerial duels - which works out at 88%.

Yerry Mina of Everton, who had made a blistering start to the Premier League season, comes in at 10th in the charts with a success ratio of 86.2%.

Furthermore, Burnley's James Tarkowski and Leicester's Jonny Evans also make the top 20, while Aston Villa defender and England international Tyrone Mings is 21st.
