Conceding 48th goal, 5th consecutive away defeat... Stats shame Utd in 4-0 loss

Manchester United's concerning recent form continued with a 4-0 defeat away to Everton on Sunday, in another result that landed a blow to the club's hopes of securing a top four finish in the Premier League.

United's struggles aren't solely down to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who only arrived in December, with their problems running far deeper than the Norwegian.

Here's a look at some of the statistics that shame United.

Following their miserable afternoon at Goodison Park, United have now conceded 48 league goals - their highest amount in a Premier League season and the most they have ever let in since the 1978-79 campaign.

United's loss to Everton was their heaviest since they were beaten 4-0 by Chelsea in October 2016.

This was also Everton's biggest win against United since October 1984, when the Toffees prevailed with a 5-0 success.

In addition, this was United's fifth consecutive away defeat in all competitions, their longest run of losses since 1981, when Dave Sexton was in charge.

David De Gea has a reputation for being one of the best goalkeepers in the world, but he has struggled at times this season. Indeed, the Spaniard has now conceded eight goals from outside the box in the Premier League this campaign, with his previous highest having been nine in 2013-14.

Another statistic that will concern both De Gea and United is the fact that the Red Devils have gone eleven matches without a clean sheet in all competitions for the first time since December 1998.

United's struggles were summed up by the fact that they didn't attempt a shot on target until the 86th minute when Anthony Martial went for goal.

Next up for United is the daunting task of a home game against rivals Manchester City.
