Arsenal vs Chelsea
With the Premier League season now under two weeks away, pre-season is in full swing.
The biggest clash of the day on Sunday would see two of London’s top clubs face off.
Arsenal would welcome Chelsea to the Emirates, with both sides putting out some fairly strong elevens.
Of course, a couple of big hitters remained absent due to their sides going deep into Euro 2020, but there was still a lot of quality on show:
Thomas Partey limps out of pre-season meeting
The first 45 on Sunday was fairly uneventful from either side.
Chelsea probably had the better of the chances, most of which fell to Timo Werner who continues to look devoid of confidence in front of goal.
The Blues, though, did eventually take the lead towards the back end of the first 45 via a lovely composed finish from Kai Havertz, who was playing for Chelsea for the first time since his Champions League-winning goal.
Haim Ziyech also came very close to adding to Chelsea’s lead 42 minutes into but clipped the post instead.
To compound Arsenal’s woes, they were also dealt a big blow on the personnel front.
Thomas Partey started the tight brightly but appeared to pick up an ankle issue following a challenge from Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
And after going down twice, the Ghanian would limp off after 38 minutes to be replaced by Granit Xhaka:
Arsenal fans will now no doubt be concerned that their star midfielder will miss their opening Premier League game of the campaign vs Brentford on August 13th.
