Couple who support opposing teams have tweaked wedding

While most couples don't appreciate any last-minute changes of plan ahead of their wedding, two football fans were happy to make some adjustments after finding out the big day coincided with the Champions League final.

Liverpool supporter Abby Norman and Tottenham Hotspur fan James Alexander, from Plymouth, have embraced the clash and are planning to show the big game.

The couple, who appeared on today's This Morning, are even planning to seat guests at the ceremony, according to who they support, and will run a sweep stake.

Abby and James hadn't anticipated the clash, as they never expected their teams to end up in the final.

Abby said: 'We joked and laughed that it could happen, but didn't think it really would. After Tottenham's game on Wednesday, our phones were going nuts.

'James was actually in London at the time and we couldn't believe it had happened - and for a massive game as well.'

When they were asked by presenter Eamonn if they ever thought about cancelling the wedding, James was quick to reply 'no.'

He said: 'No, we never thought of cancelling, we just knew we had to show the game.'

Abby and James plan to have guests sit on either a Liverpool or Tottenham side during the ceremony, adding a fitting twist to the traditional bride or groom's side set up.

They said: 'There will also be a sweep stake for the teams, the bar will be changed into a sports bar and the table plan is now by teams.'

Clearly concerned about the couple's wedding, Eamonn and Ruth asked what would happen if the guests don't support either of the competing teams.

Abby quickly replied: 'They need to be savvy and pick who to support then and who they think will win - which will obviously be Liverpool.'

The This Morning presenters also asked about whether the mood might be effected if the losing side's supporters doesn't take the loss well.

James said: 'Tottenham are the underdogs, so have nothing to fear and all the pressure is on Liverpool. But if they win, Abby will rub it in.

James also revealed that he hopes 'Harry Kane is saved for the last 20 minutes to bring on impact and pace'.

But his wife-to-be and Liverpool supporter Abby said she wasn't 'one bit worried' and added that although her team 'just missed the Premier league, we've got the Champions.'

Eamonn even got themselves an invite to the wedding in Plymouth this weekend, but Abby and James did say he might not enjoy the match 'being a Man United fan.'
