Coutinho's price tag 'drops by £20m as Liverpool open door to make him return'

Philippe Coutinho's price tag has dropped by a staggering £20million, according to a report.

The Brazilian made a £142million switch from Liverpool to Barcelona back in January 2018, and described the transfer as a 'dream' move.

Barcelona intended for the midfielder to pick up from where Andres Iniesta left off but things just haven't worked out for Coutinho.

He's fallen down the pecking order so severely that he has been linked with a transfer away from Barcelona, with Paris Saint-Germain at the front of the queue.

And, according to a report complied by Football Benchmark - a football analytics tool affiliated with KPMG - his market value has also taken a nosedive.

The report claims Coutinho's current value is around £86million - £20million less than what it was at the start of the season.

This puts the former Liverpool star fourth in Football Benchmark's top 10 list of market value decreases since January 1.

The report comes amid claims Liverpool are warming to the idea of offering Coutinho an escape rope to end his Barcelona hell.

Le10Sport reported that Liverpool have warmed to the idea of 'opening the door' to Coutinho after he made it clear he would never sign for Manchester United out of respect for the Reds.

Liverpool chairman Tom Werner recently spoke out about Coutinho's Barcelona tenure and said the Brazilian must regret his move.

"I would just point to the story of Philippe Coutinho," Werner told the Liverpool Echo.

"I have only good things to say about Philippe. But I think he left Liverpool because he wanted to play for one of the two big Spanish clubs.

"We tried to convince him that we had the club moving in the right direction and that he could experience big Champions League occasions by staying at Liverpool. I think he probably regrets his decision."
