Craig Bellamy storm: Cardiff coach hit by ‘anti-English bully’ claims

Craig Bellamy has been accused of bullying and intimidating a young English footballer with xenophobic behaviour in his role as Cardiff City's Under 18s head coach.

Sportsmail can reveal that an official complaint is in the hands of the Cardiff hierarchy. Chairman Mehmet Dalman and chief executive Ken Choo will examine the details before deciding on a course of action.

It is alleged that the former Liverpool and Wales striker repeatedly made anti-English gestures or remarks, including the insult 'English *****'.

During a pre-season tour of Italy, it is claimed, he turned off the sound when God Save The Queen was played as the squad watched the World Cup on television.

There was another alleged incident when, on the team coach travelling to a match at Bristol City, Bellamy told the players he hated Swansea but his contempt for Bristol was even stronger because 'they're English'.

One English player, who is yet to turn 18, felt intimidated and alienated by the alleged comments.

It is also claimed that Bellamy's manner is often aggressive and his mood swings have made the youngster uncomfortable and nervous, especially when the coach joins in training sessions.

The player, it is said, no longer wants to be coached by Bellamy and is now training at another club. His contract expires in the summer.

Sources have told Sportsmail he is not the only player or member of staff with concerns about the former Wales captain, who won 78 caps and scored 19 goals for his country.

Some, it is said, believe Bellamy will be the next manager of the club and there is a reluctance to challenge him.

Sportsmail has even been told one senior academy boss is 'terrified' of Bellamy.

Education manager Steve Ellis confronted Bellamy over an issue earlier this season and, after a heated exchange, the pair have rarely spoken since.

Cardiff and a representative of Bellamy did not comment.
